Have xp. Power went out last night no ups. when restarting pc it reboots after tring to load nup.sys. searched all over the web see nothing that referances this. try to boot safe. that is were it reboots on its own? Anybody got a clue? can not get to a dos prompt.

Try hitting f8 key on post. Should bring you into a menu where you can choose "last known good". I haven't tried to use "safe mode" from this menu, but have read that the best way to go is with the "last known good" choice. I had to use it once after installing SP1 when system locked up. Hope this helps.
