Hi and welcome to TSF you probably will not solve it without a disc,and the xp cd is most likely just a mix up in terms as all install discs are bootable
Download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn Boot off of the CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. Disk Check Outside Windows (Windows XP) - Sysnative Forums The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
If this fails, Back in the Recovery Console type FIXBOOT and press enter, try to boot normally. If that fails, type FIXMBR and press enter and boot normally. If that fails, you will need an XP CD to reinstall, or the HDD has failed and needs to be replaced.
