NT4 to 2003 upgrade?

we have a number of domains on 2003 and everything works swimmingly. However we also have an NT4 domain (yes still!) and we are looking to decommission it. However before we can get rid of it we need to somehow migrate the users off the NT4 domain and onto one of the 2003 AD domains. Whats the easiest way to do this? Is there an easy NT4 -> 2003 uprgade path? I know we can't directly migrate users from an NT4 domain to a 2003 Active Directory domain (we've tried!) so are looking for other options. We can't just delete the users and re-create them as there are loads of NTFS file permissions and SQL database permissions that are tied up with the SID's. Any help would be appreciated!
