PC - HP Probook 4530s, Intel Core i5-2450 (2.5ghz), Windows 7 64-bit, 4 GB RAM, HDD 500 GB (226GB free), purchased Jan. 2012

I will get right into it:

1. Computer's fan has been running hard and non-stop for several months now, fan exhaust is always hot. Fan does turn off when computer is put into sleep mode or shutdown. I have opened the back panel and thoroughly cleaned the fan and other components with a can of air.

2. Battery is completely gone. Computer will shut off immediately if power cord is removed. (I know this is normal for a 3 year old notebook, just including it in case this may have some connection with the fan running.)

3. Computer is free of malware. (Cleared by TechSupportForum Malware expert today)

Any expert advice would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks,

The bottom of the laptop is quite warm where the fan is located, the front left corner is moderately warm. The rest of the bottom case is normal temperature.

I do not use a cooling pad. The laptop has strictly been used on hard surfaces (desk), never on laps, couches, beds etc.

The main issue is the noise... It is always loud, it has only started acting like this over the last 6 months, prior to that it was relatively quiet. Occasionally, operating speed slows down dramatically after which i restart and function returns to normal.

The fan can be replaced or oiled with extra-ordinary measures using a re-inker syringe thru the foil label.

The heat issue is most certainly too much crapware running in the background.
If you want to run> msconfig and disable or uninstall useless security tools, or choose clean boot to try out....
or better send us a log of all boot apps and we can advise.

Most AV suites these days on old core2 duo's make it perform as it were infected. But I see now you have an i5 which should not be pushing the fan much unless you have a lot webpages with flash open or javascripts with flash ads

Regarding the Crapware, before posting on TSF I went through all these tips http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f112/is-your-pc-running-slow-532072.html

The guide mentioned to NOT USE MSCONFIG in an attempt to permanently disable startup programs.

I have no active AV suites as far as I am aware. I have MBAM which I use periodically to scan my system. My use of the system is limited to simple web browsing, word processing & pdf viewing and youtube videos. No games, no programming/designing. My idle temp was taken only with this TSF webpage open & HWMonitor, the fan was still running hard.

I am not sure how to send a log of boot apps but I am willing to learn if you will assist.

Thanks,
