I've got a nice Dell c840.

The battery indicator light goes on green, even with a dead battery, OS says charging, but it's not.

Anyone have any ideas what I might check out?

how old is the battery??

if it is older than 12 months i would say that is at fault,
alternatively it could be the charger unit(unlikely as it registers orange an green)

Tap the f2 key on boot and go to the bios, either do alt+p or use the -> arrow to get to the page showing the battery. there you will see if the battery is seen and the status of the battery
