I'm having some issues on my Win7 laptop with programs hanging often, especially after been using computer for a few hours. It seems to involve my web browser mainly, but but sometimes other programs also.
I've been monitoring system performance stats for a few months now, and here's the basic summary of that:
- cpu is fine (usu well below 50%)
- memory seems ok (esp now that i've taken care of browser memory leaks, via a memory optimizing program; ram was often getting down to ~5-10MB free, now is staying at ~400-500MB free (of 2GB ram))
- disk i/o is poor (this i think is the reason for the regular hangs; when i view the resource monitor it often shows 1-10MB/sec disk i/o, & response times up to ~750ms, & the #files with disk i/o up to ~1000 worst case)
My pagefile is 7GB, with usu 2-3GB free, but has been known to run completely out (getting system low virtual memory error, which is why i increased it to 7GB). But it seems that there's WAY too much paging going on much of the time (?)
