I attempted to put my HD from my Packard Bell into this Dell. It is a Seagate. I have the second one set to cable select and the primary looks like the the first and 3rd ones are selected (can't see to know what that setting is, though).

I can boot ok, but it just doesn't show the drive when I go to "MY COMPUTER". In the bootup, I did see where it was going through the IDE detection thing.

What gives? Am I missing something here?

Well, it's likely jumpering issues. Since you don't specify the make/model of the first HD, or whether you have a 40 or 80 conductor cable, it's hard to be more specific.

Actually...after I posted, I went back in and looked at it. When I put Seagate drive to cable select, I had it UPSIDE DOWN. DUH. So I just moved it over rightside up and VOIILA! :)
