Hi all,
I promise I have looked all over the net for the solution to no avail. I have a RealTec family ethernet adaptor, Linksys modem/router, no wireless card and Win7 Home Prem.

Internet is fine and as I said I am hardwired to the the modem but in my tray I have the red X of "not connected/no connections available". I have tried old drivers and the newest drivers for the RealTec card but nothing works to get rid of the red X.:banghead: I set a network up using WinXP and my netbook last night and now my tower can see that there is a netbook and also my media player and it can access my Modem page.

Can anyone help me?

Also very important when I go to network and sharing there is no way to change my profile from Public network. I can't find any option to switch to Private or Work. I have network discovery on for both public and private.

Thanks Spunk.Funk,
This was a new one so I was excited but does not work. If you look at the JPEG I attached you'll see that I don't have an "unidentified network". I still downloaded the registry changes to have them changed to private or categorized.
The sevenforum ask me to go to "Local Security Policy Editor" but since I am on Home Prem I don't have "secpol.msc" also I don't have "Local Group Policy Editor". (I tried downloading that one already but it doesn't work).

When I go to "Network and Sharing" and try to click on "connect to a network" I get the error pop up from the sys tray that I don't have a connection, but I most definitely have an internet connection.
So frustrating the little red X....

I'm open to any other ideas you may have

So you have internet access and are able to browse download play games if applicable online?

If you click on start and in search box type services.msc this will have to be done using an adminstrator account scroll down the services until you come to Wlanautoconfig open it up and set it from automatic to disabled click ok and restart pc.

Hi Cyber,
Ya everything is fine with the internets. Download, surf, etc... Wlanautocinfig was on manual and not running but I disabled anyways and did a reboot. Still have the same red X in my sys tray over my connection status but everything on the web is still as normal....

Do you have the same red x in the taskbar?

Try running these commands it may or may not help but as you have internet connectivity seems like a communication issue somewhere.

Open a cmd prompt by right clciking and choose run as administrator and type:
netsh int ip reset reset.log press enter
netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log press enter
netsh winsock reset catalog press enter
ipconfig /flushdns press enter and restart pc

Feedback from 3 of the 4 were correct.
After I entered netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log I was returned with a message of "There's no user specified settings to be reset"

Rebooting now

Hi to be honest don't think you have anything to worry about the not connected thumbnail refers to a wireless connection which you have no wireless adapter installed so that can be normal disablling it may leave a red x there.

Please go into network and sharing centre and under manage wireless networks click to open it up if you see any profiles in there please remove them.

Also go into change adapter settings in network and sharing centre and look for a wireless connection if one is in there disable them.
