say for example i have a router like linksys wrt54gl or wrt120n do i need a modem too?
i know most routers are modems as well but will having an additional modem make the conneciton more stable?

and another question:
if i have a router that doesnt support adsl2+ (wag200g) but i have a modem that does...can i connect the modem to the router and then the router to my computers?

really?i think the linksys wag was both

anyways i was using for years the the wag200g with no problems but then i switched to adsl2+ and it wasnt working well
so i started using a thomsontg585 v8
it is working fine with the web but it was no good for gaming

so now i bough a wrt120n and its horrible from pretty much all aspects

what i was thinking is:can i use my thomson for adsl2+ and then connect it with the wag200g?

you can't double up modems and even if you could that doesn't add stablity.

Good equipment and connection results in stability.

Concerning gaming, is it due to not port forwarding or just general poor performance based on poor internet connection?

i did port forwarding and the connection is fine
i am pretty sure it was the thomsons fault

i was asking if i could combine the ability of thomson for adsl2+ and the ability of the wag for good open nat

also the guy before said the routers i mentioned arent modems so its not doubling up

yep they are not modem router combos.

you get no better performance putting routers in series.
you can't have open nat by adding a router if the first router doesn't allow it.

what you may want to consider is putting the thompson in bridge mode so the wag gets the public ip it needs. This way, in effect, you bypass the thompson router using it only as a modem.

theoretically the wag has option for adsl2+ but it disconnects all the time
i managed to open the nat of thomson after lots of searching settings but still there are games it wont play...like red dead redemption

can i put an adsl2+ modem and then connect it to the wag?
what about the wrt120n....seems like its really crap...i ll return it and get another one
but i dont know what should i get...i read the wrt54gl is good enough
what kind of setup do you suggest?my budget is around 100-150 euros

Not really. With every brand, you have routers with a proven track record, while a few models are considered problematic or unreliable (Dlink is a good example).

That said, top 4 brands would be: Netgear, DLink, ASUS and TP-Link

Just make sure you look up user reviews of the router you've selected, before pulling the trigger.
