I have a 200 mhz Gateway which ran win95. I reformated the harddrive due to problems. Was finally successful and reinstalled windows. Was attempting to get modem working and lost video. I was messing with the video card, modem card and sound card. Can't get the monitor to show anything. I tried monitor on another machine - it works fine. I tried another video card that I know works and that didn't help. I suspect that I moved the video card to a different slot but can not trace it back.

I was trying to get the computer to recognize the modem on com1 but there was no com1. It placed it on com3 which I am afraid was where the video was.

I am confused and one of those people that a little knowledge will get me in trouble and it has.

Any help is appreciated.

If possible can I start over, reformat everything and reinstall?

Have you tried taking out the modem/sound cards and leaving only video? If it is a PCI video card, install it on the top slot.
Did you also try unplugging everything else? Leave only the power to the motherboard, cpu fan power, and video card and try and boot.
