Hi Guys

I recently set up a dual boot after installing Windows Vista on another hdd. My sound is AC97 onboard sound on my Winfast NF4K8AC mobo. It never worked in Vista which is understandable but now I have lost sound in XP as well. When I try to re-install the driver it says: "via ac97 audio chipset is not found on this system".

Help I can't live without sound!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Mark

check it is enabled in the bios run your m/b setup disk in xp
Hi Dai

Yes it is enabled under "Integrated peripherals" in the BIOS. I have uninstalled the AC97 entry under Sound controllers in device manager. Rebooted and then XP installed a few Audio codecs, nvidia nforce audio codec, tried to instal VIA bus master IDE drivers but failed.

I then run the mobo setup disc, install VIA driver which prompted a reboot but still exclamation mark on VIA bus master IDE drivers. Then ran the AC97 audio driver setup from the disc and got the same error.

Hmmmm?

Do I need to get the VIA bus drivers working first before this will work? Saying that they were working in the first place until I uninstalled the AC97 entry in device manager.
