I recently opened up my HP Pavillion dv6000 to find that the internal speakers flat out don't work. With some more investigation, i found that the head phone jacks work, though only from the left side. I know for a fact that it has nothing to do with the head phones, since the same head phones work on other devices and I've tried multiple different headphones.

Now I've done many of the basic things... I've checked all my volume controls, I've reinstalled my drivers, and I've even found the same problem when I run Linux. all this leads me to believe that it's a physical problem with my laptop, which isn't a lot to believe considering the piece of crap this model is.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jake

USB sound card.

Depending on your needs that could be as cheap as $20.

Definitely sounds like your jack is messed up. If you are a DIY kind of person than take a look at this.

Not exactly a step-by-step but most of the time it is just a matter of re-attaching the jack to the motherboard (or getting a new one and attaching it).

If you really need the laptop for work and home use than I would recommend to just get a usb soundcard.
