Hello,

My computer will not open any programs after launching explorer.exe; the only program that successfully launches is spotify which is set to on startup. Clicking on my computer, control panel etc. Will not open, it doesnt even seem to try load. Even task manager will not open.

I have searched for viruses using avast (which will run), but nothing will be found. Malwarebytes and hijack this detect nothing and i used sfc /scan now in command prompt for corrupted files which found nothing. I really am stumped.

One thing i have noticed is that if i click shutdown and then cancel, my computer will work for either a few minutes or the duration of my time on the computer; pair that with programs running on startup and i think that it is a hidden process blocking me out.

I also tried restoring to an earlier point, but that did not resolve the problem.

any input would be strongly appreciated

EDIT: also, for some reason right click does not work oon my desktop either.

Restart the computer and press F8 in the Advanced boot menu choose Repair Your Computer. If this fails it will take you to the RE (Recovery Environment) here choose Command Prompt and type chkdsk /f and press enter. Check Disk will try and correct any errors.

You could also try Last Known Good Configuration via F8 as well as a clean boot How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
