initial message says something like, 'hard disk changed, BIOS reconfigured, press F2 to enter setup' then it asks for a password. no one will admit to having put a password in the setup. Is there a way to clear this password? It will boot into Windows XP and it recognises the CD but it wont play it, although it says the the CD is working properly. HELP

The BIOS password can sometimes normally a default one set by the manufacturar, have you tried just hitting return to bypass it without a password? If not try and give your manufacturer a call, or visit there website.

If that doesn't work, you can clear the BIOS password. Unplug the power cable from the back of the PC, open up the case and locate the small coin-sized battery on the motherboard. Carefully remove the battery for about 30 minutes then pop it back in again. Reboot and keep tapping the 'delete' key to enter the BIOS. Reset the BIOS to its default setting, save and reboot again.
