If this is a USB keyboard, try a PS/2 keyboard. If it's not a USB keyboard, try a new PS/2 keyboard.

I guess if you can't be bothered to even tell us if they're USB devices, there's not much I can suggest.

Actually, the mouse and keyboard being swapped will do all sorts of weird things on some systems, and others don't seem to mind at all, and adjust to it just fine. They're electrically the same, so it might be instructive to swap them and see if there's any ambiguity about which is which.

BTW, purple is the keyboard, and green is the mouse, in case that wasn't clear!
