After coming home from a week-long vacation (no one else was using my computer during the time), I noticed that my internet connection is no longer working properly for my desktop PC. At first it was extremely slow, and stopped working and then started again minutes later, but now it doesn't work at all. Whats strange is that in my network places in my computer, my LAN connection is showing as connected and working properly. My internet connection is coming from a wired ethernet cable hooked up to a Motorola SBV5120 Surfboard cable modem at home, or hooked up to a shared T1 connection at my college (althought I havn't tried it out at school yet). AT first I believed that it was my network card that was malfunctioning, so I went and bought a LinkSys Etherfast PCI Adapter card, which is showing up in my network places as connected, but I'm still unable to browse websites with Internet Explorer (it always shows 'Page Cannot Be Displayed'). The cable modem is working fine with the laptop I'm typing this on, and I also tried hooking my desktop up to the modem using a different cable, but still, no luck.

I'm typing this on seperate laptop, so it will be difficult for me to run the HijackThis program and post that here if I can't connect on the computer (if a virus is whats causing my problem). Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Also, to note I've tried doing the 'Repair Connection' in the network places tab several times, and it doesn't help.

I presume the other computer has a floppy or a CD-RW, right? You can also use a USB FLASH disk. Run the HijackThis log and copy it over to this machine for posting.
