NEWISH CPU, sluggish and LOSING data on restart

Hiya.

I have a Toshiba x205, pretty new laptop with 32 bit vista (oh god!).

Lately its been running incredibly sluggish, freezing up when clicking on software windows (specifically open MS Office, or Itunes). More worrisome is when I reboot, or turn the computer back on after sleeping, I'll have "rolled" back a bit, where my recycle bin has items I deleted yesterday, my recent items and browser history are from days ago, and any new data I had (such as typing in word) is LOST.

The last time this happened to a different HP I had, it was a bad memory board frying my harddrives.


CLEAN scans: Kaspersky (paid, full internet security), SAS, and A2 trojan scanner.
