Hi, I've just installed Red Hat 9 on my PC and I've got a few newbie questions if anyone could help me out?

Firstly it doesn't recognise my 56K modem. Can anyone recommend a modem that will work?

Secondly, is there anywhere that's a good place to find unoffical drivers for the stuff I've got that's made by manufactures who don't support Linux?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Mark and welcome!

Which modem do you have? It *might* be supported just not out of the box. You can visit www.linmodems.org for a good modem resource site as it pertains to Linux.

As far as "un-official" drivers for your hardware, you'll need to be more specific. There's alot of support for some very strange hardware out there :p You just have to know where to look, so if you can give us some kinda idea about what hardware you're looking at.

u must mention your modem chipset and whether it is Internal or External? u can have the chip name frmo seeing the modem manual or bye physically viewing the card. like - CONEXANT or PC-TEL or MOTOROLA.
