I have a new Dell XPS computer with the specs below. I did a clean install of Win 7 about 2 weeks ago and I'm now getting blue screens when it wakes from sleep. Previously, I had Vista 64 bit loaded and it slept fine with no BSOD. For the most part, the software I had installed on the old Vista system was the same software I installed on the new Windows 7 system. I've done all the recommended Windows, Office, and Adobe updates.

I would appreciate any help you could give me and hope that I have followed all the correct procedures and uploaded the files needed.

System:

Dell XPS 435T
Intel Core i7 CPU 920
12 GB RAM
64 bit Win 7 Home Premium
1.5 TB Seagate HD

Unfortunately, the dump files indicate a very general problem based on the image names at fault; all of them are core Windows items. I would guess this is a driver based issue, have you tried updating all your drivers and ensuring that they are 64-bit drivers?

Yes, I've updated all the drivers to 64 bit where available. There are a few that didn't have 64 bit and then I had to take the 32 bit. The weird thing is that the previous 64 bit Vista OS had no problems and I haven't changed any programs. So you would think that if it was a 64 bit driver issue (or lack of a 64 bit driver), then the BSOD problem should have occurred with Vista, but it didn't in the 4 months that I had the system running!

Any ideas on where to start or a methodology on how to go about testing drivers?

I'm guessing that's your problem right there. With a 64-bit OS, the drivers MUST be 64-bit. You can run regular applications that are 32-bit because the program communicates with Windows, which translates the information before communicating with the hardware. Drivers, however, communicate directly with the hardware and therefore have to be 64-bit drivers.

Norton Internet Security was installed just a day or two after the clean install of Windows 7 (11-10-09). I will run chkdsk on reboot. The hard drive is brand new. I bought it about 3 weeks ago so I would hope that it does not have problems.

So do you think that NIS (ver 2010) is causing the issue?
