So I just built myself a new computer, all new stuff except I kept my old HDD and CD/DVD drive. They are both hooked up on the same ribbon with the cd/dvd set as a slave, but the system will not boot from a 64-bit xp bootable disk. It will say booting from cd after all the bios junk and then sit there for a while and then it will try to run the old installation of xp that is on the HDD which it will start to load and then show a BSoD for split second and then reboot. The strange thing is that it will do that even if all three boot priorities are set to be the CD-ROM drive.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

Unfortunately the mobo only has one slot for the right size ribbon so I can't put the HDD and CD/DVD on seperate ribbons, I will try messing with the jumper settings though and see if it makes a difference, in the meantime, any more ideas, and how likely is it that just formatting the HDD using another machine or buying a new HDD will make it work?
