Hi All,

I plugged in my old Maxtor HDD into my new Sony Notebook, but the PC doesn't seem to recognize the HDD. I checked Device Manager, and I can see the Maxtor Drive there, but when I click on "My Computer", it does not show the drive, and I can't access it. I don't remember if I have any data on the HDD, but I believe I do. I took the HDD from my old computer (3 computers ago), when I upgraded to newer models. I never tried to use it again until now. I connected the conveter to make the HDD USB Connectable, and when I plug it in, the Green Light Comes on and I can hear the HDD Spinning, but I can't see the drive on the system. Can anyone help me with this? I would appreciate any advice you can give me.
Thanks.
Larry

How about a screen shot from disk management so we can see the partitioning. Rt click My Computer -> manage -> disk management in left column. Can you feel the drive spin up? Is this a 2.5" bus powered drive or a 3.5 with it's own power adapter?

This is the screen print showing that the Maxtor Drive is not recognized or shall I say not initialized.

Yes, I can hear the drive spin up when I plug in the USB Connector. This is a 2.5 inch bus powered drive. I used a USB converter kit to convert the edge connector to USB so I could plug the drive in using a USB Cable. The drive was taken from an old laptop. It was the main hdd on the laptop and was connected internally via the edge connector (not USB).

Download partition finad and mount www.findandmount.com - use the thorough scan option and scan the drive to see if it identifies the partition table. If it does, then mount that partition witht he mount buttion and copy out the data you need to another disk. You can then initializwe, create a partition and forma the drive for reuse in disk management.

I did exactly as you suggested, but when I try to run the program, I'm getting the following error message:

"There were errors on start (Device Driver Service Cannot be started. Error Code 577) Program will terminate".
