New SATA Hardrive Connection

871 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Deleted090308
I own an HP Pavillion dv4000 laptop. This computer has been used sparingly; however, it has a defective Seagate 5400 RPM 100 GB hardrive. As a replacement I ordered a new Seagate 7200 RPM 120 GB hardrive. I did not realize that the new hardrive was a serial ATA connection and the old hardrive was the ATA ultra connection (parallel). What type of converter (if any) do you think I should buy to solve this problem? From what I have seen so far, the most efficient way is to physically replace the connection.

Thanks for everyones help.

Welcome to TSF.

Forget adapters etc - it won't work.
You should ask for a SATA hard drive replacement.

I did what you suggested - i have a new hardrive in the mail.

thanks again
