I am putting a new set of rings in a B&S Vanguard 303447 0447-01 v-twin. Looked up at several major sites to make sure I had the correct part number before I ordered the rings. I got ready to install the rings and found my old rings were almost twice as thick as the new ones. Both boxes have the part number that I found is the correct one, maybe. Any one able to give me help on this predicament

Need the date code for your engine as there was two different ring sets used in this engine. If it is the older piston and ring set; they can only be replaced with a new piston and ring set. Note there two different piston sets still in use hence the need of the date code also are using standard or .020 over.

They changed the piston and rings on Dec 24, 2007 and your engine was made on April 27, 1992. So with that your going to need new pistons and rings.

You probably currently have PN 843953 or 843957 ring set which will not fit. The replacement pistons and rings are as follows:

STD PN 843951 or Oversized .020 PN 843958
