Hi Im looking on upgrading my processor but not too sure on how much benefit I would get for my money (Im pretty poor)

Im currently running on a 3.05 gigahertz Intel Celeron D and Ive been looking at getting a AMD A64 AM2 6000+ X2.From what Ive read these processors mainly benefit people who multi task and I just want to improve my gaming experience.

So is it worth me buying one of those considering I don't plan on multi tasking? Also Ive come across 2 different sorts of these AMDs with same model number but one runs at 3Ghz and the other 3.1Ghz,so if it is worth upgrading should i get the 3.1 version for £4 more? Here is the links to the same processors but with different specs:http://www.web-systems.co.uk/?page=Products&pid=4382

This will be my main Christmas present so any help would be greatly appreciated , thanks.

Edit:Im using a Nvidia 8800gtx and on 64bit Vista with 4g ram.

So glad I posted here, would of wasted all that money.Ok Ive found a intel one my board supports buts its only 2.5Ghz x2 Intel E5200 Dual Core Processor http://www.energy-computers.com/intel-e5200-dual-core-processor-2652-0.html

Would I see a difference in my gaming using that over the one ive got.Ive bee playing stuff fine but tried to play COD WAW and it plays slow.

Edit: Opps diddnt see your recent responses, thanks for those links can afford the E5200 though, looks better on paper, i dont know about processors though.

Look at the list of processors over to the right if it says N/A then it will not work, the E5200 will not work. Under $200 the E4500 the best you could go is the X6800 big money
The E6700 or the E6600 both over priced unless you want to shop Ebay it would be cheaper (and better performance)to buy a new motherboard and an E8500 then buy a E6700

Your a star man, thanks so much for your help.Ive been looking at the AMD compatible motherboards , this one seems a nice price http://www.directron.com/mcp6pm2plus.html and I think that would support the AMD 6000+.My CPU seems to be maxing out when I try to play the new COD (call of duty) so hopfull a new CPU will do the trick.

So will a AMD 6000+ perform better playing games (no multi tasking) than my 3.06Ghz celeron HT, this is my main concern, don't want to spend all this money if im not going to notice any difference. Thanks again for all your help.
