so i installed my new mobo in my hp pavilion, and everything fits perfectly and the fans are all spinning correctly, but when i start my pc it keeps doing a system repair then after about 30 minutes of that it restarts and when i get to the "windows is starting" screen, the screen hangs for a short second and then a really short BSOD and then a restart and back to the system repair, i have checked some BIOS settings but everything looks fine, any ideas? also i have a disc of the mobo, should I use that for booting? (the manual is not very clear about this....)

you use the mobo disc after windows is repaired.

are the rest of the parts oem i.e original parts from the HP computer?

Some manufacturers have parts specifically designed for their motherboards so they sometimes wont work if a new motherboard is added if it isn't manufacturerd by them.

did you see what the bsod said?

are you using the windows disc to do a repair install?

if not then system repair probably wont work.

Is the new Mobo identical to the old Mobo?
If you replaced the OEM Mobo with a retail Mobo you will have to do a Repair Install or a fresh install of the OS. The latter being preferred.

As long as everything is compatible and connected properly, it would be best to do a clean install (format the drive) of Windows.

If you are worried about losing the data, try using a LiveCD like Knoppix or Pupply Linux to boot from (yes, from the CD!) and transfer your data from the HDD to a different storage device.

An important issue here is that the original OS was almost certainly an OEM version and thus tied to the original motherboard. The only exception would be if the motherboard was an exact replacement or one designated as such by the manufacturer. Unless your motherboard is such a replacement you will need to purchase a new OS disk to stay legal.

Where did you obtain this copy of Windows 7 that you burned to disk? This forum cannot help with illegal copies of Windows.
