I just installed a new laptop screen and it works, except I can't see anything unless I shine a light on it because it is so dark. I have tried fn and manually adjusting the brightness. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Check inverter connections. After this, if with the old screen you have backlight, you have a faulty screen, or you don't have backlight on both you need to replace the inverter.

Okay, sorry. I obviously don't know much about computers, so I wasn't sure if the backlight was something that I could look for when I took my computer apart. Thank you for your help.

No worries, i could also have explained myself a little better.. Please make the requested tests with the old screen and post back results.
The backlight is inside the screens, but its replacement is very difficult and near to impossible to someone with little or no experience. However watching a Youtube video doesn't hurt. Just search "screen backlight replacement".

Cheers.

Okay, Yeah I reconnected the old screen and light is fine so I'm going to contact the people who I got the screen from and look up new backlights. Thank you again, I still would have been sitting in front of my black screen, not knowing what to do lol.

Yeah, contact them and request a replacement, i don't advise you to buy backlights, like i've said, they are very hard to replace and even harder to be placed right.
