Hi,

I come to you at my wits end after a long journey with my computer. I've had this trusty desktop since 2017 and had been running windows 7 up until about 6 months ago when some programs I was trying to download on it were no longer compatible. I use it for work and have a 4 monitor set up. It's an Nvidia Quadro NS 450 graphics card and an MSI motherboard.

I upgraded to Windows 10 and it was relatively stable. Every once in a while I'd come upstairs and it would've crashed. I think it was typically around trying to perform some sort of windows update but I would just perform a system restore and everything would go back to normal. (This would happen about once every 2-3 weeks) and the error was always related to a specific file like nvldmkm.sys (which i think is down to my graphics card) and Page Fault In Non Paged Area

A few days ago, I came up to a Critical Process Died error. System restore didn't work, I couldn't even boot it in safe mode and after trying everything I could find on the forum/Google I decided to do a clean install of windows.

After the install, the first thing I did was copy over my USB Ethernet device driver (Netgear A7000). I did that, and it restarted fine and created a restore point before driver install for it.

At this point, everything starts going haywire. I tried installing my graphics card driver directly through NVidia's site and after it installs and asks to restart, it'll just freeze at the motherboard flash screen. I've tried to let Windows Update search for all the drivers and install everything. I've also tried letting Windows just update without any of the driver updates first. No matter how many times i've tried to update and the order by which I've tried to update, it still wont restart normally. Sometimes it'll get stuck trying to restart, sometimes it'll get stuck at the motherboard splash screen but I have yet to get my display working correctly or even have my computer be able to restart normally.

I've probably done about 15 system restores and nothing seems to be working. Desperate for any thoughts on how to solve this issue!

Please let me know if you need any more details from me.

thanks so much!

Update the USB Ethernet device driver since it appears this is where the problem started.

So I downloaded that directly from the website and once I have that running, if i pause updates everything runs normally. I can restart as expected etc. I think the issues start with all the updates I try after that

Write down the details of that driver. It's possible you need that older one and the ensuing updates install a newer version.
