? Are we talking about a fresh windows install on a new hard drive ? Can you give us some more info ?
New Hard drive doesn't recognize any audio device
I had to install a new hard drive and in sounds and devices all the playback and record devices are greyed out. I had soundmax running on the old drive and I'm not sure what to do.

Restore of windows xp onto a new 80gb hard drive.
I know that soundmax was the factory setting on my old hard drive so figured it would be the same for the new one. No sound and no audio devices are displayed.

If Soundmax is onboard sound, you will need to install its drivers from the motherboard CD.
