Utilizing XP PRO SP3

Recently "Faded" files and folders have been appearing withing my files and folders.
I have attached a jpeg as a sample.

Any comments appreciated.

Hi, welcome to TSF

Right-click the faded files and select Properties. Do they all have a checkmark in the Hidden box?

They're probably system files which are hidden by default. Best to leave them alone.

Have you recently changed the 'Hidden files and folders' option in Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab from 'Do not show' to 'Show'?

I have taken your advice to task and have restored folder options to default status and POOF .. away the files and folders went.

Just a quick thank you, I was having an odd issue with 'faded icons' and
couldn't figure it out. I had my Hard Drive wiped and restored in 2006 and since then I've had these strange 'faded Icon's' in MS Word and other places on my HD...
You're post helped my figure it out...the "Hidden Files" box was unchecked and they were showing up dimmed.
So I went to folder options and Voila' (that's a French word) ;-))
it's a non-issue...the way I LIKE IT>

The thing that still puzzles me is the replacement of the first two letters of the file names with a ~$ - When I'd save a word doc, it would replicate itself at the bottom of the folder, but the first two letters would be replaced with ~$ for example, instead of
methods_and_procedures as the file name,
it would be spelled ~$thods_and_procedures - and then the faded (hidden) icon.
But I've fixed half of the issue thanks to this post...so

that's nothing to concern yourself with as far as i know. i think it's just a temporary file, but it's just something that word does.
