I have an old MSI RS480 motherboard that I bought back in 2005. One day I wanted to flash the bios and during the process there was a power failure. The motherboard has been sitting in the box dead ever since. I noticed however that the bios chip is removable. I never attempted to find a replacement back then. I am wondering if anybody knows where I might acquire a new one for this board. I am just trying to build a secondary system out of my old components as I have all of the parts accept for a working socket 754 motherboard.

As an alternative if somebody knows where I can acquire a cheap socket 754 motherboard with integrated graphics and a VGA output, that would work too. I have found some on ebay but they to be going for higher prices then I would have expected they should be by now. I bought my replacement socket 754 motherboard after the bios incident for about 30$ brand new about 3 1/2 years ago.

Budget for this atm is 26.60$.

I currently have:

CPU: AMD Athlon 3200+ 2.2ghz
RAM: 1.5GB DDR PC3200 supertalent
PSU: 450w
Case and fans, CPU heatsink and fans
and everything else I need to get this system working, just need a replacement socket 754 mobo or a new bios chip for my old one.

thanks.

I don't know. Seems buying a new one of these boards and replacing the chip will cost about the same. Problem is finding a new board now.

Thank you for the information. At least I know where I can find a new chip in the future. I may or may not try to resurrect the old RS480 but for now I just bought a new socket 754 mobo off of ebay.
