I cannont figure out why these networks will not share internet. It is the only function that doesn't share through. Also I cannot seem to get the LAN networks to stay private in Home location. They continuously goes public....

For the Internet Connection Sharing Problem, follow this link. It will provide you with a better understanding on it.

As for your other problem, you would need to start another thread on it.

Thank you for your reply IT guy. Sadly it doesn't provide me with what I need. I have a good understanding of ICS. I have been going through the registry to try and figure out what is causing the LAN networks to force public. Or even why I cannot enable ICS on my Wireless adapter that recieves the internet. Would it be helpfull if I were to post settings from my registry that are related to TCPIP? Is there a list of services that I can compare with mine so that I can ensure that all necisarry services are running and in the proper start type? I have also tried running a network bridge consisting of the wireless and ethernet adapters on the laptop much the same way I would to connect my XBox360 to the internet. Didn't fix my problem...

Seems pretty clear what the problem is.

Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-24-2C-50-FE-B5
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::5cf2:8316:8ef0:bc4c%10(Preferred)
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.12 <------ can't use x.x.0.x with ICS

ICS will make the lan card at 192.168.0.1. It will act as a dhcp server to the downstream pc which will usually get a ip of 192.168.0.2

Since there is no ICS there is no dhcp server and since the Toenail-pc
is set to dhcp it defaults to autoassigned ip of 169.254.x.x

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Heather-PC
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No <--- should be yes

You need to engage ICS which you have not done according to this

But first you need to change the subnet on the wan to something other than 192.168.0.x or ICS can't work. Though I believe there is a work around of changing the ips ICS uses if you can't change the wan ip.

I would add when troubleshooting you should stay out of the registry. More harm is caused doing that than anything else.

Wanderer, thank you for your posting. It is very informative. I understand that due to the ip configuration the pc is telling the network that it is the host, and so is the laptop. In the services console I found a service called Routing and Remote; or something like that. When it is enabled IP routing is Yes. Do I need to worry about WINS Proxy? It's value is No. I am assuming that IP routing only needs to be enabled on the host computer as it was not defined otherwise. I am going to attempt these fixes and reply soon. And though I have looked through the registry with great detail I have not made any changes to it and due to the warning will not......

Many thanks

this is the ipconfig /all on the Laptop that recieves the internet now that I have initiallized Routing and Remote Access service for the Local System. ICS will not initiallize however. I believe it may be due to the LAN not being private. For some reason or other I cannot get the LAN to stay private.

In order for the ip configuration to be corrected do I have to set it manually? If so does it need to be configured on both computers or just the one suppling the internet?

I know that there is probably a simple fix to these problems but as I am not an 'educated' networker I just can't figure this out.

wins proxy should be no so you did right there.

you only configure one machine as ICS host but you don't connect the other device to anything else but the host machine.

Looks like so
internet<>ICS host machine<>other devices

The problem is just what I told you about. You can't have the same ip subnet on each side.

What is providing the internet to you? Router? modem?

my internet is provided from a wirless router. I have the network up and running without using ICS. What I have done is create a network bridge consisting of the wirless adapter and ethernet adapter and assinging the 'other device' the ip settings manually. I still cannot achive internet access without the bridge due to an inability to start ICS.

I deliver many thanks to those who assisted me in my journey

Connecting to the router certainly would be easier but if you still want to pursue this path you will need to logon to your router and change its ip scope.

You start by changing the gateway entry from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1
You then change the dhcp scope to whatever range its at now but you replace the 0 with a 1 in the ips.
Then you save the settings in the router
You will disconnected from the network
after you reboot you will get the correct ip settings in the x.x.1.x ip range

THEN ICS will work for you.

This is what I managed to do. It seems to work just fine now. As you can see, I think, ICS is not initiallized.

Is there any advantages to ICS that the bridge doesn't have? Are there any disadvanteges to the bridge?

Should I start over? If this network isn't going to offer the proper security I don't want to keep it.

IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes

Appears ICS is still engaged and no evidence of bridging showing in that ipconfig.

Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller shows a auto assigned ip. Nothing connected to it can route since they would not get a gateway entry.

Nothing there to show routing or bridging is working.

Why aren't you changing the ip address subnet on the router?

This is what a ipconfig looks like when bridging
