Hi,

I have two computer and the network works fine and looks like it is set up correct for the internet (Broadband) and file sharing as i can see the computers on the network. But this computer has the main internet connection but the internet will not load on the other computer even though it file shares fine and looks like the internet is set up fine as some reason it already had the right proxy details in it after i set the network up and said it is connect to the internet through another computer on the network.

When we first set up everything it worked but took 5minutes to load a page if that, most the time it just said page cannot be found and it does not work at all anymore.

I know it is probally hard to help with out seeing the actually computers but does anyone have any idea how i can get the internet to work on it?

Kind Regards,
Scott

Hey
Check and see that you have set right the ICS (Internet connection sharing) as well as File and Printer sharing.
I would suggest to let windows network wizard do the work for you.
Run it and just choose the right options according to your state...

To start off with, how are the computers connected. Through a router, Hub/switch, or cross-over cable?

If through a router, and there are only two computers, then I would disable DHCP on the router, and set a static IP address on the computer that has the internet shared.

Through a hub/switch, set a static IP for the Computer that is sharing the connection. If you have windows XP, when you enable internet connection sharing it will assign you a static address of 192.168.0.1 ( you can enable Internet connection sharing by going to start control panel - network connections - right mouse click on the lan connection between the two computers, make sure Client for Microsoft Networks and TCP/IP are both there, if not install them.

Then right mouse click on the Internet connection that will be shared, go to the shared tab, and choose Enable Internet conncetion sharing for this connection. I would personally put the check boxes in the allow clients to use this connection and the allow them to control or disable the connection.

Then go on the client pc, and go to their network connections. Right mouse click on the lan and make sure it says obtain ip address automaticly. That is about it.

I suggest you lose ICS and install a broadband router. All of the crazy ICS configuration and bandwidth issues will be a thing of the past.
