network

I have two laptops. one an Asuss eee pc 1000 with xp the other a Toshiba equium running xp mce. The asuss doesn't have an optical drive so I would like to know if it is possible to link the two so one can use the resources of the other. If it is possible it would have to be a cable link. Sorry if it's a basic question, so is my knowledge.
