today I got my cable modem and now have to call the cable company sometime to come hook everything up here. someone asked if I had a network card on my computer which is needed here and I wasn't for sure. looking thru my info about my computer. I read that I have a integrated,intel pro 100M PCI NIC Card. i'm curious is that a network card or is that completely something else?

Yep. NIC stands for "Network Interface Card". Yours is integrated onto the motherboard. You should be good to go. :smile:

and, since it's integrated, you should find it stacked right near your keyboard and mouse plug. looks like a big phone plug.

Yeah, but the cable guy should set everything up for you anyway, so you really don't have anything to worry about.
If you can set everything up, most cable company's offer a "Self Install" kit.
This saves you the fee for someone coming out to do what you might be able to do for yourself. Also saves a lot of your time.
If you have the cable modem and you can connect it to a CATV wall plate near your computer, you then need to hook 1 wire from your computer to the cable modem. Some cable modem self install kits also come with a CD with instructions and software to get things up and working.
Most cable companies have a call center you then contact to enable/authorize your service.
