today I got my cable modem and now have to call the cable company sometime to come hook everything up here. someone asked if I had a network card on my computer which is needed here and I wasn't for sure. looking thru my info about my computer. I read that I have a integrated, intel pro 100M PCI NIC Card. i'm curious is that a network card or is that completely something else?

If you can set everything up, most cable company's offer a "Self Install" kit.

This saves you the fee for someone coming out to do what you might be able to do for yourself. Also saves a lot of your time.

If you have the cable modem and you can connect it to a CATV wall plate near your computer, you then need to hook 1 wire from your computer to the cable modem. Some cable modem self install kits also come with a CD with instructions and software to get things up and working.

Most cable companies have a call center you then contact to enable/authorize your service.
