Network Card Problems

Hi all,

I am stuck on an issue. I am working on an IBM Thinkpad X30 with a "
IBM High Rate Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter with Modem II" installed. After updating OS from win2k to WinXP I receive the following error when trying to install device drivers.

The device manager reads: The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28) and the device appears as "IBM High Rate Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter with Modem II #2"

When I go to reinstall the drivers I receive the following error:

"An error occurred during the installation of the device
The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name"

If I try to uninstall the device I get this:

"Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer"

I am completely stumped now so any help would be greatly appreciated. Even to find out which keys to pull out of the registry :).

Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcoem to TSF

As a checkup, get into SafeMode and try uninstalling it. Then boot back into SafeMode with networking and install the drivers that way.

How to get into bootup option screen: Safe Mode
thanks!

I tried that and I still get the error
"failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer"

Any other suggestions?
Restart your computer.

At startup try installing the drivers again. They will fail.

*Now, go to Start > Run > type: setupapi.log and hit enter.
*Choose Save as for the log on your desktop.
*Zip the file and attach it along here on your next post.

It will tell why and what is happening.

You have the remnants of the old driver registries thats why its conflicting.
Sorry it took so long to reply.

Attached is the file you requested:
