I'm a pensioner in need of guidance...please

I wish to attach 2 additional routers to my existing network to extend the range... the following scenario was suggested to me, but I'd like to find out if it will work or is there a better way to do it.

I begin with the original router and from the spare ports on the router run cables (rj45) to the 2 new routers via their WAN ports

change subnet on router 2 to 192.168.2.1 and dhcp 192.168.2.100 / 192.168.2.254
change subnet on router 3 to 192.168.3.1 and dhcp 192.168.3.100 / 192.168.3.254

Finally, i want to connect a dvr (with cameras) to router 3 for internet access and also an external waterproof repeater (hopefully to give me 'garden internet')
Could you also advise about setting up passwords for all three please.

I have to say this has all been 'parrot fashion' as I have no working knowledge thus far, but I'll cross that bridge once some kind soul advises me.
Please try and reply in simple terms as this would help me so much!!

P.S. arn't forums wonderful things!!

thank you in anticipation of your help and advice

thank you OLD RICH for your very helpful reply...

I was beginning to get a bit nervous when I saw over a 100 views and no replies!!

Hope someone does u a good turn...I'm a great believer in 'what goes round...comes round'

I'll update this once I've had a chance to try it out!
If I can manage it then anyone can...

You wouldn't want all those subnets due to having to forward the dvr ports in the main router to the second and then forward from the 2nd to the 3rd... most of the time it doesn't work which is why you want them all in the same ip subnet

...so to summarize, from the 1st router I run two cables ( both from LAN ports) and connect respectively to LAN ports on the 2 'extension' router.

On router 2, disable DHCP and set IP adress to 192.168.1.2, also enable WEP (making sure that SSID has the name of primary router)

Then on router 3, disable DHCP and set IP adress to 192.168.1.3, also enable WEP (making sure that SSID has the name of primary router)

Ensure wireless setup is exactly the same as primary router on both secondary routers

Does the above read ok?

I intended to run the repeater from a LAN port on router 2... any foreseeable issues?

if I have missed anything, please don't hesitate to put me right!!

By the way I see you guys are both from the USA...I've had the good fortune to visit both places and found typical friendly american hospitality. great country...i love it

For routers 2 and 3, I would use 192.168.1.250 and 251 . . that puts them out of the range of the dhcp assignments from router 1 and avoids IP conflicts

I lived in London for a while in the 80's but the closest I got to you was Manchester one weekend.
