hi folks,

i believe i have a conflict between two network cards and i'm unable to resolve the matter on my own - hence this post.

with one card installed my XPsp2 system is aokay.

when i install a second card the system POST's and boots to the 'windows splash screen with the progress bar' and then hangs/freezes - any ideas what's ahappening here please???

Well, why don't you start with the make/model of the machine and/or motherboard, and the make/model of the two network cards? Did you try the cards in different PCI slots?

motherboard - Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
network card 1 - Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller (onboard Asus mobo)
network card 2 - Asound 10/100 PCI Ethernet card

didn't know/try different slot could make a difference!

thanks for your i/p - will try a different slot now.

This may sound simple but, are you certain that the new card is seated properly?
Also, what you probably could try is going into the bios and load fail safe defaults, or you could also reset your bios.

Just some suggestions.

Nothing beats a trial but a failure.

thanks for your input folks,

i'll try a different brand of NIC, swap out the Asound card for a Realtek card.

will also double check the card 'seating' before swapping out the card or before trying a different PCI slot.
