how do i get my dell latitude l400 to reload completely. i can't get it to reload windows 2000. some one please help me?:upset:

What did you use to reload the system to default (manufacturer install)? I am not about this but does your model come with a hidden partition (recovery partition)? If not do you have the recovery CDs that originally came with the computer?

i tried to reload with a manufactured disc. but it won't reload. no it don't have a hidden partition. no i don't have recovery cds. i need to put windows 2000 on there any ideas?

If you do not have a recovery CD or a recovery partition, you will need a W2K installer CD. I hope the laptop came with the drivers CD. It originally came with W2K, right?

Make sure you can boot from CD/DVD drive (set in BIOS or press F12 to choose boot device at DELL logo splash).

Have you checked in BIOS to see if it allows booting from USB device? Older pc's usually do not.

Both are for XP, but win2k installs the same way

Hmmmm.... you are using an external disc drive and not the disc drive of the laptop?

the laptop don't have a disc drive

If the external drive is USB, Look in BIOS to see if it has the option to boot from USB . .

I do not see that model in the Dell list . . can you check the model number again?
