Need Some Help (Graphics Card)

This morning I'll be heading to PC World to buy my Nephew a new Graphics Card for Christmas. The reason for my choice of present is down to his constant whining about poor quality graphics on his favourite game 'Empire Total War, and a Card update might be the ideal thing to buy him to cheer him up a little.

The thing is, I don't know whether or not his Motherboard will take a fairy modern card?

Motherboard

He's setup at the moment is

2.40 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
1024 kilobyte memory
NVIDIA GeForce 6200 TurboCache(TM)
Windows XP Professional

The thing that worries me the most is it not fitting into his slots, though i believe the card has PCI slots that will take modern cards.

thanks for your time.

Well hopefully if you haven't bought the card yet we need the power supply make and model and wattage to advise on a gpu. Also your budget.

With that old of a system you'll wanna stick to lower end cards as the pc specs will basically bottleneck anything higher end. Also , it's an asrock board which , is just a hassle to work with. So chances are very modern models may not be supported by the bios.
