Need Help With Periodic Lags In Game.

I have a Gateway GM5626(yes, its quiet old), Vista, 3GB DDR2 dual channel memory, Intel pentium dual core processor E2180, NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT video.
2 weeks ago while i was playing CD4 like i always did in the few months before that with no problems, my computer starts to lag like really bad, i thought it was a one time thing and it will go away as it did then came back 5 minutes later. I played other games that i have played before and they all starts to lag a few minutes in and repeat what have happen to CD4, when i quit the games my pc returns to normal speed, so i thought it was a problem around the graphic area. So I updated my graphic driver(what they said to do, when i googled my problem), clean out the dust, end all the process that is not needed, deleted most of my files (C Disk: 321/455 free space) and the problem still there i just don't get it!!!
I am now scanning for viruses on my computer, any suggestions or helps would be very much appreciated.

Seems a typical case of overheating (with my old comp, I had the same issue and the GPU was fried). Check your GPU temps and post them. Do you get artifacts while playing games ?

You might want to defrag as well and indeed check for viruses.
Thanks for the reply. Indeed it was overheating....i placed a external fan to cool down my PC and it worked! I guess I have to clean out more dusts. I also deleted some viruses so that might be it too. Anyone have a good way to clean out all the dusts in the computer? (except the air can method)
