I am planning on building a gaming pc and have so far picked out these (have not purchased yet):

1. EVGA nForce 790i Ultra SLI mobo

2. Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz cpu

3. Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1333 (PC3 10666)

4. WD Raptor X 150GB 10000 RPM SATA HDD

5. 2x WD Caviar 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0GB/s ( using RAID 1 )

6. Samsung 20X DVD Burner SATA

7. Windows Vista 32-Bit Ultimate

8. Ultra X3 1000-Watt Modular PSU

9. I am trying to decide whether to get the XFX GeForce 8800 GT XXX 512MB GPU (will it be good enough for high end games like Crysis) or the EVGA GeForce 9800 GX2 SC 1GB GPU.

I also need help picking out a good case to use. So if anyone has any advice about the Graphics card or the case please post.

P.S. Any advice or comments about the build is welcome. Thanks.

Okay, with a 32 bit system, only 4gb memory total will be recognized- thats including RAM, GPU, anything else with mem.

So, for instance, if you bought the 9800 GX2- your computer would only recognize 3 GB of RAM. You might want to consider x64 edition.

As for the graphics card, the 8800 GT will work ok, but I would choose to SLI 2 8800GT's for MUCH MUCH better value with barely any difference in performance over the 9800 GX2.

In this benchmark, it shows 2 8800GT's running better than a 9800 GX2. It would also cost about $150-$200 less

Are there ANY disadvantages to 64-Bit vista?
Hey newguy, How much is this total package costing you?

Im looking to build my own system as well, im just strating my research now. But, Id like to combine gaming with media center functionality. Id like to add a blu-ray player, and have dvr and tv capabilities.

My question is: Is it wise to combine gaming and media center together? What are the drawbacks?
