Say I had a Dell gx 240 and a Dell gx 270, both running xp. The 240 machine dies and I lost my xp disk. All I have is a Ghost image of the 270 machine. Could I boot the 270 HDD in place of the 240 HDD so it loads 240 chipsets and drivers, then make a new image from the 270 HDD compatible with the 240 HDD?

This may sound confusing but its the only way i can explain it. I really need help here.

It might not boot. You'll probably get a BSOD since the hardware is different, but you can always try it.
I recommend just calling Dell. Tell them the service tag number on the 270 and they'll likely let you buy a recovery CD for a small fee.
