3449 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  8210GUY
I got a new HD and a new SATA DVD/CD rom drive. i need to be able to boot using the sata dvd drive so i can format the HD. I already took out the IDE dvd drive that i used to do that. i am hoping that i dont have to put it back again cause already packed to be returned. :(

Sorry bud, windows doesn't recognize SATA opticals w/o a driver. You'll have to dig up the IDE optical. Unless you can get the driver onto a floppy and boot from that, you're outta luck. That's why i'm keeping mine around for a while until drivers come readily available.
I too have a Sata optical drive so I know what you mean, I wont be able to tell you anything now, but hopefully by the end of next week at the latest I will have experimented with some things and find if anything works, the download they gave there doesn't appear to be working for me, but my theory ATM if you want to try it is to boot to the floppy and install the Sata drivers then see if you can boot to the optical drive, no idea if it will work, I still have to try it, but I will be having a try next week and report back if I get anywhere.
if it is for a windows install i would think slipstreaming the driver into the disk before doing the install
I have tried several times to slipstream the Sata driver into the install, but have so far failed, but TBH that wouldn't work initially in such a case as this IMHO, because the optical drive is not seen until after the Sata driver is installed, so it's a vicious circle.
