Are you trying to dual boot XP and Vista? Or do you want to completely remove Vista from your laptop and install XP?
My guess is that you have a SATA drive in possibly a RAID configuration (maybe Not) The xp cd does not have SATA drivers on it, you need to embed the proper drivers on a XP installation cd. There is a free program that I've used that really works well at this. However I am at work and do not recall. Search google for "embedding sata driver on xp cd" if that does not work, play with the search words.Last week my Compaq laptop started to give me problems so I purchased a new Toshiba A205-S5855. I'm in the Integration field and the software I use runs on Windows XP Pro only.
Needless to say the new machine came with Vista Home Premimum well when I went to install XP I get the message "Setup did not find hard ......."
After searching the internet I find that I have the SATA hard drive. So I download the drivers from Toshiba website dust off my USB floppy and restart the installation.
I press F6 to install other controller
When prompted I select "S"
The program searches my floppy and gives me my choices
In my case "ICH8M SATA AHCI CONTROLLER" I press enter
Then I'm promted once again to Press"S" or "Enter" I use the"S" use file from floppy
Then I'm promted to Press Enter to Continue.
The Windows XP CD runs as it loads other items in memory
It access the floppy during this time then all ends with the
Blue Screen saying "Windows has stopped to protect your computer from
damage."
I downloaded "driver_ahci_install_27415A" from the toshiba website the computer bios is 2.2
If there's some other software I need or anyone can guide me through this installtion I'd really need the help.
Thanks
