I like Microsoft Security Essentials. Its what I use on all my clients computers. I used to use AVG but I've found Microsoft's version is more effective in some cases.

As for me, I prefer commercially available antivirus/internet security suites. There are reliable free-for-download suites as well. However, I would recommend paid versions because they are more dependable, from my experience.

I would suggest you to check these options in any suite you decide to download or purchase:

1. Disinfection capability
2. Network attack blocking
3. Parental control (if applicable)
4. IM (Instant Messaging) virus check
5. Checking mail antivirus
6. Monitoring vulnerabilities

I have given above only the functions I am concerned with. Better to study available suites/programs before deciding on what is best for you.
