Install the Windows OS CD and go to Start, Run, type sfc /scannow and then enter.

If the Windows menu pops up because the CD was loaded, just close the Windows menu window.

This will scan your OS for missing or corrupt files and should repair them. The scan should take about 15 minutes.

Sometimes you can install the Windows CD in the drive and boot from the Windows CD. But be careful, you do not want to re-install Windows as it will wipe all your saved data, you want to repair Windows. Look carefully at the menu options that show up on the display.
