Hi im not sure if this is the right place to post this however im getting desperate and need answers!!

I turned on my pc running vista 64 bit edition the other day to find that windows had failed to boot due to a corrupt or missing ntoskrnl.exe file. I thought nothing of it and just got out the vista repair disk only to find that this did not fix the problem. I went further to try and do a fresh installation as well and another error message came up after I had entered the cd key. Could anyone please shed some light on this issue and advise me if there is a way to save my hard drive contents or if need be to format my hard drive from outside of windows in the command prompt after the recovery disk has failed.

thanks for any responses
