My company is looking go to implement a full service intranet using Sharepoint an Office 365 licenses and I don't know where to begin. We currently use Sharepoint but it's poorly organized and I have a HR person telling me there's a company that could get us up and running soon but the investment is $30-40k minimum using templated from spmarketplace.com.

If anyone could give me some guidance or places to look, I would greatly appreciate this. We want to be able to have HR, Acct, IT, and a central communication maybe using Yammer(I've been trying on Slack lately).

Thanks again!

If your current SharePoint website is a large mess, then I would recommend stating new with the current Office 365 platform.

Unless you have a SharePoint Administrator working in your IT department, you'll be traveling blindly and a lot of things can go wrong in SharePoint. SharePoint Designer helps a lot, but implementing the thing take a lot of working hours.

A $35K investment for a full working SharePoint website with department sites doesn't sound all that bad, especially considering the amount of hours to do it yourself or possibly hiring a SharePoint Administrator.

Once SharePoint is up and running it's smoother and easier to add/edit content.

Well, I am a new IT Director and have very little experience with Sharepoint.

One of the original potential goals I had was taking us to Office 365 as we have 19 stores and a corp office. I could learn Sharepoint I suppose, but my energies are currently focused in other areas.

We have a company that our Head of HR has been courted by, to the point that they're ready to start the project provided we ink a check. I am pulling the reigns on it to personally vet them a bit more. Our HR person doesn't really have the slightest clue what we're getting into either, although she has good intentions. I want to make sure we get the best ROI and hire a company that will listen to our needs and provide what we're looking for.

I have found a couple other companies to compare/contrast but I want to make sure I am asking the right questions.

What are things to look for? Any guidance as to the best way to go about this? I realize these are general questions, and perhaps I should do some more research first.

If there's a good website or book to start with, please recommend anything of that ilk. I appreciate any and all help!

I would first begin asking the company what projects they have worked on in the past. Ask the time frame of the project and ask if the project will be completed in full so that you only need to add content, not continue to build the SharePoint website.

Ask if there is any warranty work or additional support after the project is done.
