Thank in advance for any advice. I have been trying for months to get my HTPC up and running correctly. The problem I am having is no sound through the HDMI output of my video card. I have tested the HDMI cable and the port on the TV and they both work fine.

I am running Win Vista Home Premium with SP1. My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT.

By reading online for ideas I keep getting to right click the speaker icon and enable the HDMI in Playback Devices. It is not there, the choices I have are Speakers or SPDIF and I have tried them both. I have ran the Hardware Digionistic Tools that came with my HP computer, the sound test failed when connected to the HDMI.

OK here is what I am thinking MAY be the problem....I have opened up the case and looked, there is a sound connection to the video card BUT it is connected to the motherboard and I have a Sound Blaster card installed. Should the sound connect between the Sound Blaster Card and the NVIDIA card to get sound out of the HDMI port? If so does anyone know where that connection is on the Sound Blaster Card?......it is a Sound Blaster Fi-Xtream card.

My first post so  everyone!

Try this. I'm not sure if its the same in vista but go the your control panel and open up Sounds and Audio Devices. Then find your Sound Playback and change it from your sound blaster to your nvidia card.

On mine if I want to enable hdmi sound I go there and It shows me the option of either my sound card or my ati Hd audio output.
