Need advice on a career change from teaching to the IT field.

I would really love to work in the IT field, but I am not sure where to start. I was wondering if you could give me some direction as to what a desirable candidate possesses for a position like this. I have more than five years computer repair experience and two years experience in network architecture and security maintenance. I have standard certifications: A+, Network+, Security+, MOS, MOE, MCAS, and I am working on Linux+. I have a BS in History and Psychology a TN teaching license and I am working on my Masters in Ed Leadership.
I say all of that, to say this, I have applied and interviewed with a couple committees within my school system, and the interviews went really well, but they usually have a candidate in mind before they even interview....(I know this because I have an inside source in the IT department.) What can I do to break in to the IT world?

Thanks for your time,
